I worked as a conductor -teacher in Special Education School settings for over 17 years.
I was described as a born-to-be conductor- a teacher with great passion and dedication.
I moved away from some of the Conductive Educational posture correcting tools and strategies but in my heart, I have never stopped being a conductor-teacher. I still passionately share the principles and the belief that Professor Peto left for us ‘Everything is possible’.
I am an advocate of the conductive principle that only the unity of commitment, consistency, an openness to possibilities even for the price of no matter what it looks like will bring victory for us.
There is no perfection in life, but self-acceptance self-discovery and self-improvement. Teaching, and nurturing self-confidence, learning and independence are the tools to achieve those. Along my journey I have learnt a lot about movement. I have learnt a lot.
I no longer design-plan-deliver task series, use splints, straps, gaiters or any equipment that may limit movement. However I haven’t come across with a better system than Conductive Education teaching the need and importance of consistency, continuity and the importance of creativity and social-emotional development. The Conductive Framework embeds the necessary time into movement habilitation.
The daily routine includes time for creating and introducing new movement possibilities, as well as integrating these into everyday functional self-care, play and social routines. My personal opinion is that, this is still the missing piece in modern rehabilitation. In my work I try to teach parents those simple but doable strategies that can be easily used and practised in their daily routine without much preparation or effort.
The Conductive Education Principles are:
- Holistic view of a child: a person is a whole unit with indivisible part
- Holistic Education: to support and nourish all areas of the child
- Active Participation: learning processes need to be specifically targeted by making the child actively part of the habilitation /rehabilitation
- Conductive framework: life-long learning, where routine activities ensure continuity and consistency
- The Conductor: trained to enable the child to develop, improve in all areas including physical, emotional, academical and social areas.
